Talk2Care Intensive Care App

CASE STUDY

Intensive Care App

How do you communicate without a voice? When you have a tube down your throat and in most cases very weakened – also cognitively – it is very hard to communicate with the surroundings. But the need to be heard and being i dialog with relatives, nurses and doctors is of course still big.

This led Odense University Hospital to come up with the idea of a tool allowing this patient group to benefit and take more control of their situation.

Bluefragments together with OUH developed a Windows tablet app, Talk2Care to give voice to the patients at intensive care.

PATIENT INVOLMENT

One of the reasons for the app is that it enables patients to become more involved in their own care and treatment. With a huge benefit for both patients and staff.

DESIGNED FOR INTENSIVE CARE PATIENTS

Careful design is needed when the user can be both weak and very immobile. Special pictograms where designed and colors carefully chosen to facilitate optimal communication.

THE APP SPEAKS

Patients are able to express wishes and needs by click and point. The app will simply speak out what you need.

CUSTOMIZATION

The app can be customized to speak with male or female voice, making patines feel more comfortable. The staff can tailor buttons, pictograms and voicing based on the app is used.
